 Refugee Ministry

Welcome to our Refugee Ministry

The La family arrived from a refugee camp in Thailand December 20th.  The family is from Burma but was in the refugee camp at least 8 years.  They are settling in and learning English.  The family loves to sing and dad plays guitar.  On Shrove Tuesday we gave the family a guitar and they quickly began singing.  The daughter is in school and Girl Scouts.  She will be going to Camp Webb this summer for Creativity Camp as she loves to sing and to draw.  They will all be going to Washington DC this summer with the Gateway English as a Second Language (ESL) Program.

We need people to help drive them to appointments, visit them and to practice English with them.  If you are interested, contact the church office at 763-7482.

UPDATE February 2008
The La family has been with us just over a year.  In that time, they have worked hard to learn English.  Eh Too, the husband, has fund employment as a cook at Veronico's.  Maemae Poe is active in her Girl Scout troop and learning the violin.  Samo A Too is running and beginning to talk. Eh Too and Laku Htoo are learning to drive.  We still need people who are willing to go out with them for practice.  We were given a wonderful gift of driving lessons (weekly) for them.
